About

I’m Rubén, I’m 24 years old potter based in Galicia, Spain. In 2024, I graduated with a degree in Fine Arts, during which I discovered ceramics almost by chance while on an exchange program in Bilbao.

Upon returning to Galicia, I discovered Buño, a small village with a centuries-old pottery tradition. The care and dedication shown toward the craft captivated me from the very first moment. I began as an apprentice under Pablo Rodríguez, a ceramicist and designer from Buño based at Risco Estudio, and later worked with O Rulo, the village’s master artisan. Arriving in Buño was one of the most significant moments of my life.

Since then, my learning has been rooted in the pottery tradition of Buño and in the people who keep it alive. Yet, I approach this tradition with a critical eye, balancing a profound respect and admiration for the craft with a desire to question it, reinterpret it, and discover my own unique way of engaging with it.

My practice, therefore, exists at the intersection of two worlds, tradition and the contemporary craft movement—somewhere between mastering the technical craft and personal exploration. I strive to make every piece an opportunity for further learning. Continuous learning is an integral part of my work, and indeed, of my life.
